Sindh's Cry for Justice: The Fight for Water Rights Against Punjab’s Control

For decades, the people of Sindh have been fighting for their basic right water. The lifeline of Sindh, the Indus River, has been choked, diverted, and controlled in a way that deprives millions of Sindhis of access to clean water, agriculture, and livelihood. Today, the Sindhi voice is rising not in violence, but in powerful unity, demanding justice, fairness, and the return of their rights.

Why Is Sindh Protesting?

The heart of the protest lies in one word: survival.

The Sindh province is heavily dependent on the Indus River. Its farmers need it for crops, its people for drinking water, and its economy for sustenance. But over time, massive canals, illegal diversions, and dam projects have drastically reduced the natural flow of water to Sindh. The biggest grievance? These diversions are often backed or implemented by powerful interests in Punjab.
While Punjab continues to flourish with an abundance of water, Sindh is drying out. Thousands of acres of fertile land in Sindh are turning into deserts. Farmers are going bankrupt, villages are being abandoned, and millions are being pushed into poverty.

The Injustice Behind the Dams and Canal
The construction of new canals on the Indus River without Sindh’s consent has become a symbol of injustice. These projects not only reduce the flow of water downstream but also violate the Water Accord of 1991, which was meant to ensure fair distribution between provinces.
It’s not just a resource issue it’s a human rights issue. When water is unjustly taken away, it’s not just rivers that dry up hope does too.

What Sindh Is Demanding
Sindhi people aren’t asking for more than what they deserve. They’re asking for:
-Fair and just distribution of water.
-Implementation of the 1991 Water Accord.
-Respect for provincial rights and autonomy.

This isn't just Sindh’s fight, it’s a fight for fairness, equality, and sustainability.

Why the World Should Listen
Water is life. When a region is denied access to it, it's not just an environmental issue it becomes political, economic, and deeply personal. The world has watched similar struggles in places like Palestine, Bolivia, and India. Sindh’s struggle is no different.

The Sindhi people are standing peacefully, courageously, demanding what is rightfully theirs. It’s time for the world to hear their voice and stand with them in solidarity.
